Glencoe and Lochaber
Glencoe is one of the most famous glens in all of Scotland. Renowned for the grandeur of the mountains that tower over the steep sided glen, the area is a magnet for mountaineers, hikers and photographers. The glen itself forms an ancient way of travel from the shores of Loch Leven to the wild open spaces of Rannoch Moor – a vast stretch of moor and bogland that is one of the largest wildernesses in Scotland.
Glencoe, however, is only the most famous of Lochaber’s many glens. There are many other notable ones which deserve their reputation alongside Glencoe for their awe inspiring natural beauty. These include Glen Etive, Glen Nevis and Glenfinnan, the latter being particularly famous for its spectacular railway viaduct.
Besides its many glens and mountains, Lochaber extends to the shores of the west coast where you will find rare and ancient Oak forests lining the shores of shimmering tidal lochs. This is an incredibly diverse area.

Scotland’s Outdoor Capital
Lochaber is one of the most popular areas in Scotland for outdoor pursuits, which has given Fort William (the largest town in the area) the title of Scotland’s Outdoor Capital. Lying at the foot of Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain, Fort William draws people from the world over to enjoy the superb hiking, biking, and wildlife spotting opportunities the area has to offer.
