Cairngorms National Park

Duration 7 Days
From £1830 pp
Group size 8 maximum
Grade 3B
Join us for a 7 day hiking trip in the Cairngorms National Park. With some of the finest remnants of the Caledonian pine forest along with mountain vistas, shimmering lochs and traditional Highland villages, we consider the Cairngorms to be one of the jewels of the Scottish Highlands. This adventure is not just about hiking, we will also be looking out for native wildlife along the way. We hope to encounter some iconic Scottish species including red squirrels, golden eagles, osprey and crested tits. On one of the evenings we'll visit a wildlife hide where you may also spot nocturnal creatures such as badgers and pine martens. Led by an expert local guide who brings their own knowledge and passion for the region, you'll get to explore ancient Caledonian pine woods, tranquil loch shores, and panoramic mountain viewpoints. At the end of each day you can rest and recharge in comfortable, hand-picked Highland accommodations. With a blend of popular hiking routes and lesser-trodden trails, our Cairngorms National Park trip offers a chance to connect with nature and explore one of the most beautiful areas of the Scottish Highlands.

Day 1

Blair Castle and the Whim

Details

Your guide will meet you at Pitlochry train station in the late morning, Pitlochry can easily be reached by train from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness by train.  We’ll then transfer north to the charming village of Blair Atholl.

A tour of Blair Castle will give you an insight into the area including the history of the Dukes of Atholl who were a huge influence on the region. This striking castle, with its distinctive white façade and iconic turrets, showcases a blend of architectural styles that reflect its long history, dating back to the 13th century. Visitors can explore its richly decorated rooms, which house an impressive collection of art and artefacts, including portraits of notable figures from Scottish history.

After exploring the castle and its gardens we walk out of the grounds to one of the many ‘follies’ constructed over the years by the Dukes of Atholl to enjoy the views back down to the castle and hills beyond.

Transferring further north, we reach the vibrant town of Aviemore which will be our base for the next 4 nights.
