Glencoe and Lochaber
The hikes below are suggestions to give you a sense of what's possible. Every private tour is fully customisable — we'll tailor the itinerary to your interests, fitness level, and dates.
Make your way to Fort William, the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’, and check in to your accommodation. Enjoy dinner at one of Fort William’s many excellent restaurants, before getting a good night’s sleep before your first day of hiking tomorrow!
Your guide will contact you today to confirm plans for tomorrow – route choice, meeting place and time.
Head out for your first day of hiking today. You’ll head for Glencoe, where your guide will meet you at the trailhead of your agreed route, and take you on a hike tailored to your abilities and ambitions. Marvel at the dramatic landscape of the glen, surrounded by some of the most famous mountain peaks in Scotland. Hiking options abound, from easy walks at low level in the glen to challenging ascents to the summits and back. Return to your accommodation afterwards.
Head to Glen Nevis today, a stunningly beautiful glen that lies at the foot of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland. Glen Nevis is famous for several spectacular waterfalls, especially the 105m high Steall Falls, as well as the regenerating caledonian forest the decorates the glen. The glen offers several superb options for a hike, or alternatively you may like to take on the challenge of Ben Nevis itself, rising 1,345m above sea level.
Today you’ll visit the world famous Glenfinnan Viaduct with your guide. We will take a slightly different approach to most, parking nearby Glenfinnan and enjoying a quiet hike on wide easy trails through the forest that takes us to the monument on the shoreline. From here we can continue up to the viaduct to catch the steam train crossing, or even further up into the hills if feeling ambitious! After returning to the start, your guide will make their farewells. Head back to Fort William for your final night.
Enjoy a final Highland breakfast and check out from your accommodation this morning. Say farewell to Fort William as you begin your onward travel – either homeward or perhaps continuing the adventure.
All elements of the itinerary are subject to change due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.
Want to make this trip even more special? Here are some options to upgrade or extend your experience.
Instead of self drive, make this tour fully guided. Your guide will be your driver for the whole tour, collecting you from an agreed start location and returning there at the end of the trip. Adds two guided days to the tour, with options for more hiking on those days.
Upgrade your accommodation to a more spacious room or hotel. 5 star accommodations available.
Instead of hiking to see the Jacobite steam train, why not take a trip aboard instead? Ride the train from Fort William to Mallaig and back - a classic day trip through amazing Highland scenery. Substitute a hiking day or add it as an extension.
Spend a day with a local bushcraft expert learning how to source and prepare wild food from the woods and shores of the Highlands. Spend a half or full day. Substitute a hiking day or add it as an extension.
Interested in any of these? Just mention it when you get in touch and we'll build it into your itinerary.
Your accommodation for this tour will be a 4 star guesthouse where you will be accommodated on a B&B basis. Fort William and the surrounding area has many welcoming, high quality options where you will be well looked after by friendly hosts.
