Loch an Eilein and Rothiemurchus

Your guide will meet you at Aviemore train station and you'll head out into the stunning Caledonian pine forests of Rothiemurchus, in the shadow of the Cairngorm Mountains. You'll circumnavigate Loch an Eilein, where the ruins of a castle sit on a small island in the middle of the loch, and hear the story of the Rothiemurchus Estate - in the same family for generations, with a history spanning centuries.

This evening you'll visit a wildlife hide where badgers are regular visitors, and if you're lucky a pine marten may appear as dusk falls.

The Green Lochan and Cairngorm Reindeer

From Glenmore you'll hike a gentle trail to Lochan Uaine - the Green Lochan - where the remarkable green colouration of the water is said, by local folklore, to be caused by the faeries washing their clothes. Continue to a classic mountain bothy where views open back over the Cairngorm Mountains.

Completing your circuit, you'll head out on a short hike to visit the Cairngorms' only free-ranging reindeer herd in their hillside paddock - with the opportunity to hand-feed the animals and meet some of the calves.

Glen Feshie

Glen Feshie is often called the most beautiful of all the Cairngorm glens - a reputation only enhanced by the extraordinary rewilding work taking place here. As you journey through the glen you'll see native pine trees regenerating and climbing higher up the mountain sides, reclaiming terrain that was lost over centuries. You'll hike the length of the glen to Ruigh Aiteachain, a remote bothy in one of the most spectacular settings in the national park, for lunch before returning the same way.

At the end of the day your guide will drop you back at Aviemore train station.
