Our photo of the season features one of the most iconic mountains in all of Scotland – the mighty Liathach. The name is of course Gaelic, translating as ‘The Grey One’. The simplest way to describe its pronunciation is with the middle ‘th’ silent – so Lee-Ah-Ch.
Liathach forms the northern wall of one of Scotland’s best loved glens – Glen Torridon. Rising steeply on all sides to pair of dramatic summits linked by a rocky ridgeline, it is a magnet for the eyes no matter where in Torridon you stand.
Like many Scottish mountains, it truly looks its finest in winter, and the view of the mountain rising abruptly above the shining waters of Loch Clair is one of the great classic views in all of the Highlands.
